Human Use

- For hundreds of years, natural gas has supplied millions of people with the energy and electricity needed to complete their everyday tasks.

- The Energy Information Administration (EIA) said that energy from natural gas accounts for 24% of the total energy consumed in the United States.  This is a strong indication that natural gas is vital to the wellness of humans and human activity.

- Because natural gas is one of the cheapest forms of energy available, people are beginning to become more dependant upon gas to power their homes and lives.

- Natural gas is used for residential heating and is a great supplement for expensive energy resoucres.

- Because it is a great resource for heating and cooking in homes, many natural gas pipelines are being built to supply homes with energy and electricity. 

- According to the US Census Bureau, 70% of single family homes use natural gas to power their houses.

-14% of natural gas is used in commercial environments including lighting, heating, cooling, cooking, and water heating. 

- Heating and cooking are the major uses for natural gas.

- 43% of the uses for  natural gas are used in industry, providing the base ingredients for base products including fabrics, fertilizer and plastic.

- Next to electricity, natural gas is the second most used energy source in Industry.

 

 

 

 

 

- With the help of new technology, compressed natural gas is now becoming available for use in vehicles.

- According to the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, there are more than 110,000 natural gas vehicles (NGV) in the United States, and over 1.5 million NGV's worldwide. 

- NGV's are much cleaner than other vehicles because they produce, on average 89% less methane gas, 70% less carbon monoxide, and 87% less NOx than traditional gasoline powered vehicles.  An example of this marketed car includes the Honda Civic GX.
- Natural gas is used widely among many people to enhance their lives.  Using this form of energy is clean, and provides many with a cheap way to power houses, offices, and cars.
